Bevin Manufacturing Update
Acting Town Manager Jeffery Jylkka provided an overview of the fire that occurred at Bevin Bell on Sunday, May 27th.  In the week following the fire he met with the Brownfields Redevelopment Agency regarding clean up and met with staff members.  Contact information was provided to Matthew Bevin regarding buildings in town that may have space available. The Department of Economic and Community Development provided a staff liaison with ideas for grants and loans for Mr. Bevin.  Mr. Bevin met with his employees at the Town Hall, where the Department of Labor was available to assist his staff with unemployment filings.  Senator Blumenthal visited the site of the fire. A meeting is scheduled with Senator Blumenthal’s office and Congressman Courtney’s office to discuss how they can help facilitate funding.

Bevin Manufacturing Next Steps
Mr. Jylkka indicated that there will be more information on next steps after the meeting with Senator Blumenthal and Congressman Courtney’s office.

Ms. Weintraub has been assisting Mr. Bevin with options for fundraising and media relations.  Community members have been calling with ideas to help.

Library Director Sue Berescik discussed the idea of “Shine a Light for Bevin Bell”.  They would sell LED flame candles for people to put in their windows to show support.

Ms. Berescik also discussed working with the Chatham Historical Society and others to provide information to Wikipedia regarding the history of Bevin Bell.

Mr. Bevin thanked the firefighters, staff and everyone that assisted during the fire.  He spoke of the history of the bell factory and the town.  Mr. Bevin answered questions from the Council and the audience.

First Responder Recognition Discussion
Ms. Weintraub suggested a proclamation for the first responders acknowledging all towns that assisted at the fire.

Emergency Alert Notification Update
Ms. Weintraub provided an overview of East Hampton Alerts, powered by Everbridge.  The month of June will be considered Emergency Alert Month.  A press release will be provided to the newspapers and online news regarding the service for the town.  A direct mail piece will be mailed to all homes in town with instructions on how to sign up online for this important service.  There will also be locations in town available for assistance in signing up.

Ms. Moore noted that Emergency Management Director Rich Klotzbier has enough volunteers signed up for a CERT group (Community Emergency Response Team).  They will be attending training soon.

The File of Life sponsored by the Rotary Club will also be available at the locations provided for signing up for East Hampton Alerts.  File of Life is a document that is filled out with medical information that is put on the refrigerator and emergency responders know to look for the red envelope when responding to emergencies.

Chief Reimondo had suggested using the East Hampton Alerts logo on town vehicles.  The Village Lions will be assisting in that project.

The regular meeting ended at 7:40 p.m.
